Writing Memos and Format Memos are used for interoffice communication. Because they are not for use outside the company, rules for writing them are not as formal as for letters. However, they do convey important information, so it is important that they be clear, carefully arranged, and neat. Memos should be easy to understand, and it should be easy to find the main point. If an organization does not use a printed memo form, the normal heading for a memo includes the word "Memo" or "Interoffice Correspondence" centered at the top of the page. On the left margin is the date, who the memo is to, who it is from, and the subject of the memo. A memo may be directed to one person or a specified group of people.
